THIS IS A FULL-LENGTH, STAND-ALONE, ADULT ROMANCE
I have been staring at her for three months. Watching her. Memorizing her.
For ninety-two days, I’ve looked into those lifeless green eyes.
And for ninety-two days she has inspired me in ways I never knew possible. A muse, unbeknownst to her. Motivating me. Encouraging my darkest desires.
I’m a man who knows what he wants. And what I want is the beautiful and broken Holland Howard.
My name is Jensen Payne—photographer, autocrat, lecher, Scopophiliac. I am who I am and I will not—cannot—change.
WARNING THIS BOOK CONTAINS POSSIBLE EMOTIONAL TRIGGERS FOR SOME READERS. PLEASE TAKE THIS WARNING SERIOUSLY.

4 starsThis was a very good story. I liked both Holland and Jensen (although I wasn't sure what to think of him at first) and by the end I was very happy to see things work out for them. This is the first book I've read by this author and based on this I'm likely to try more of her work in the future.
Holland is a good women that ended up facing a lot of pain. She had a good life at first, got through college and got the job she'd always wanted. She fell in love and married a good man and eventually had a baby. Unfortunately, losing her baby to SIDs and then finding her husband cheating on her with her BFF messed up her life beyond repair. She dropped everything and left her old life with only a couple thousand in cash, just wanting to get away.
Jensen is a photographer and a man who is very into viewing beauty of all kinds. He specializes in taking erotic photos of women and often binds them, something he feels the need for in his bed partners. Jensen doesn't plan to have a wife or family because of a problem that he has that he doesn't want to inflict on others. Jensen is damaged but still a good guy.
When the story begins, Jensen has been going to the pub that Holland works in as a waitress for a few months. He's been watching her all this time and sees that she's deeply sad and has little emotions. He's curious about her and a bit obsessed. Jensen invites Holland home with him after her shift that night and for some reason (that even she doesn't seem to understand) she goes home with him. He shows her his photography and asks her to model for him. Holland sees something in the pictures he shows her of his previous models that makes her WANT (the first time in a while) so she agrees to model for him. The modelling carries into a night of passion that was supposed to be just a one night thing. That doesn't happen though and they soon end up seeing each other frequently.
Holland isn't sure why but she feels the need to continue seeing Jensen. Maybe it's because he makes her forget for a while but often she feels guilty afterwards for forgetting her pain. Jensen has his own pain that he's trying to forget. He finds himself being drawn into something more serious with Holland than he ever intended and it bothers him while at the same time it doesn't. He doesn't know what to do about the direction things are heading but has trouble trying to stop it. Things don't go smoothly though because while things are getting more serious between them, neither of them is very good at talking about their past or the issues plaguing them both. They do find solace in each other though and their feelings for each other become stronger the longer they are together. There's some drama and angst along the way but Jensen and Holland do work past their issues and come together in a well deserved HEA.
I enjoyed this story very much. I wasn't sure what to think of the story based off the description but I'm happy I read it. Holland was a very good heroine and I liked her. Jensen was hard to pin down at first but by the end I liked him and was happy that he and Holland were together. Overall, this was a very good story that I'd recommend. :)

HARD edition by Cheryl McIntyre Dawn Decker Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Cheryl McIntyre is one of my favorite authors, especially her New Adult novels (Let It Be is one of my all-time favorite ugly cry books), but I have to admit I was a little leery of reading her first erotic romance. I didn’t want to lose the emotion she does so well in her other novels. Thankfully I had nothing to worry about. Hard is one of the rare erotic romances that also has a fantastic storyline. The story is absolutely gorgeous with elements of mystery, deep emotion and even a dash of laughter.
The book flips between Holland and Jensen’s point of view. Holland had everything she ever wanted and then she lost it all. After suffering debilitating loss after loss she has become a shell. She goes through the motions of her life but feels nothing. Jensen loves beautiful things; sunsets, moonlight, women. His fascination with what he finds beautiful is reinforced by his love of photography. The two play into each other in his art as well as his sex life.
The intimate moments in Hard were lavishly erotic. In fact, I dare you to read this book and not get aroused. Jensen and Holland are both suffering so when they have a chance to escape what’s going on in their heads by using their bodies they do it with gusto. There are many, many sexual scenes in this book but I never once felt that the sex was boring or repetitive. Each act was well written and unique. I do wish there would have been a little more material between Jensen and Holland’s sometimes frantic coupling, but at the same time I understand that the only way they knew how to connect in the beginning was with sex. So it’s understandable that a lot of the book takes place during their sexcapades. As the novel goes on and their connection becomes stronger we get more time with them outside the bedroom. It was a gradual move from strangers using each other to intimate lovers that was beautiful to watch.
Besides the storyline and emotion, there are a few more things that make Hard stand out from other erotica. Getting to see inside Holland and Jensen’s mind when they included BDSM in the bedroom was fascinating. Holland is enthralled by the idea of Jensen tying her up but still having power over him. But that doesn’t mean she wasn’t conflicted. She liked the way she felt “empowerment and liberation” but she struggled with why she felt that way. Jensen is hands down one of my favorite characters in an erotic romance. Even when he was trying to use Holland he was never unkind. His thoughts on women’s bodies and beauty were fantastic. He was a beautiful soul with camera and a pair of handcuffs. I would love to see more hero’s like him.
If you’re in the mood for an erotic romance I definitely recommend Hard. It has all the emotion of McIntyre’s previous novels with an insanely erotic story to go with it.
